A daily dose of Ellie, Calvin, or both!

Summer Day 17

So Calvin is starting to show his personality and not be the always happy excited kid. He is now realizing that my wants and his wants are not the same. Today her threw a fit when I dropped him off at daycare. But he is also not interested in sitting and eating but rather being a class clown and getting a rise or feedback from the teachers and other babies. He wasn't eating previously the lunch I prepared for him and stealing the other kids lunches (almost all had a Kids Klub prepared lunch, by their chef) and so not as a trial, he is signed up for the KK lunch program (today was fajitas, quesadillas, rice and beans...yes please!). Silly little boy.

Welcome to toddler-hood!

Summer Day 16

Ellie is signed up for the library summer reading program and has really enjoyed reading to us. She also has her own library card now.

The weekend had some water play activities given how hot it was. Which meant multiple trips to KidsSpace where cal enjoyed the baby room until his sister wanted to steal his fort.

Summer Day 15

Well I don't think convincing Cal to go to school at Meher will be too difficult. He loves the train table and it's been a little tough to pry him away from it in the mornings.

And I learned a lesson...it's much easier to do sunscreen (and pretty much anything else with him) while he is strapped down, car seat is a perfect place!

Summer day 14

The garden is exploding. The pumpkins may take over. And we've eaten several strawberries. The basil is almost out of control. And the peas are starting to bloom. Some of my favorite things all growing in the garden. And I may have gotten the Beetles under control.

And Nick planted the Orange tree that they gave me for my birthday.

In the barrel there are a whole bunch of volunteer pumpkin (?) plants. We threw the little mini pumpkins from Halloween in the barrel and I think the seeds have sprouted!

Summer Day 13

So apparently E talks in her sleep. I went in to check on her before I went to bed and she started mumbling some words that I couldn't make out. And then she yelled, "adandelle!" Which if you aren't familiar is the fictional land where Anna and Elsa live in Frozen. She even dreams Frozen. Crazy.

No photos today. Enjoy this one from the past.

Summer Day 12

Things at Meher are a lot like when E left last year, but yet things are totally different. Like in the daycare room there is an amazing play kitchen that she is kinda obsessed with and a train table which has raised Calvin's interest at drop off.

She is reading a book about gems and minerals (her choice) and writing about it daily.

Happy Birthday to me!

Today I turned 34. And Nick and Ellie made sure that I had a special day. We had a nice dinner, but all the fun was the presents and sweets afterward. E and Nick decorated a cake for me. And there was chocolate covered twinkies and strawberries. It was a bit much, but amazing.

And the presents were awesome. E picked out some seeds. And an orange tree! We will be doing some planting this weekend for sure. Nick found some amazing tiles salvaged from the Wrigley mansion on Catalina. They are beautiful. And there was a whole host of Harry Potter memorabilia Nick got from work including a onesie for Cal and some Every Flavor Beans which will be a hoot with Ellie.

Now enjoy this forced smile from Cal.

Summer Day 7

So maybe you heard...the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup!

So I squeezed C into his 'Hawks onesie that is just a little too small...which if he stood still long enough you could actually see.

Summer Day 6

Today was Es first day of summer school at Meher. She was very concerned about seeing her old preschool friends and the fact that her cursive skills were not what they used to be. She was so concerned she asked me to talk to her teacher about it. Of course on the way home she said that third graders write cursive and she wanted to practice again because it would impress her first grade teacher.

Of course the moment of the day was leaving for school with both of them and their lunch boxes and e helping Cal down the front stoop.

Garden update: things are growing well and we even had a strawberry to eat! Our blueberry bush seems to be the victim of asiatic garden beetles which apparently don't have an organic way to get them to leave my plants alone (despite my internet searches) so I've taken to going out at night and pulling them off the plant. Stupid wanting to be healthy and not kill things with pesticides...

Summer Day 5

Today was Es last day of camp with Kids Klub, until the last week of summer. She is really going to miss it and one counselor in particular. Today she came home with her face painted and with a certificate certifying her as Miss Sunshine.

Calvin had a well visit today. He tensed up immediately upon entering the office. But he survived and even for one shot.

He enjoyed the fish at school when he was leaving and then picked out his own dinner and set his tray. Don't worry I didn't let him eat that.

Summer Day 4

What a crazy day. We barely made it to Kids Klub in time for E to catch the bus (if she missed it I would just drop her off at camp, no biggie). I had a work social function at the horse races. Then I picked her up from camp and she had a piano lesson. Then from her lesson we went and picked up Cal and went to Yogurtland for dinner with friends.

And did I mention that Nick is in Chicago?

I'm exhausted.

Summer Days 2 and 3

Yeah, I missed yesterday. Its been a bit stressful around here with schedule changes and I was at the office until midnight last night. Getting Ellie to Kids Klub by 7:30 so she can make her bus to camp is exhausting! At least Kids Klub feeds both Ellie and Calvin breakfast. Typically I feed Calvin breakfast at home when I feed Ellie as he is a growing boy and likely part Hobbit. Well with the loss of 15-20 minutes at home...breakfast has become a quick bite and a snack in the car for Ellie.

Well, except today. Today at camp Ellie had a field trip to a pool for swim lessons. Knowing she was going to have a long day I wanted to make sure that she had a good breakfast in her and so I made eggs for both kids (which meant earlier wake-up times for all). Of course, for breakfast both kids got french toast and bacon...so I guess I didn't have to fret about breakfast for anyone!

Kids Klub also feeds Ellie lunch everyday...I have a one-week break from making lunches and it is glorious! Today she told me she had mac and cheese with applesauce and broccoli for lunch. Everyday when I pick up Ellie she is bouncing off the walls full of energy and so excited to tell me all about her day and sing new songs. The girl loves her some summer camp. I actually feel guilty about sending her to summer school this year each day when I see how happy she is.

Of course Calvin is always happy to see Ellie when we pick her up from camp. They two babble and Calvin tries to sing along with Ellie (but he does dance and clap along with her).

First day of summer camp!

Ellie has a packed summer. This first week she is doing summer camp though Calvin's daycare. Today I dropped her off right at 7:30 and she hopped on a bus to take her to a off-site facility a few minutes away. The camp is at a fancy girls school in Pasadena.

I picked her up at 5:30pm and we headed to the Dodgers game. She talked non-stop about how much fun she had at camp. A couple of kids from her school are in the camp with her so she had some immediate friends. And not we are at the Dodgers game with Cousin Jimmy enjoying some very nice seats in the field box level.

Last day of school

Today was Ellie's last day of kindergarten. I can't believe how fast the year flew by. So many things awesome happened this year from concerts to field trips to watching Ellie's personality grow.

We are looking forward to next year and first grade!

Second to last day of kindergarten

Today was her last full day of school for Ellie (tomorrow is a half day). Yesterday another kindergarten class had a party and Ellie was a bit upset that her class didn't have a party. Little did she know that some parents were arranging something. One mom said she would bring pizza and then it snowballed. I handed Ellie some napkins to take to school and she looked at me and said, "are we going to have a party?". I neither confirmed nor denied. Nick also dropped off some
Pirate booty (cheddar popcorn) once school started. Apparently they had so much food that they saved some for another party tomorrow! This week has been spent, from what we can gather from Ellie, talking about the drought and water conservation, playing on the big kid playground to get ready for next year, and making diaramas about the rainforest and endangered animals. Sounds pretty awesome.

And in other news my baby carried his lunch box and walked out of his daycare by himself.

Third to last day of kindergarten

This week is free dress day everyday, which we didn't know yesterday when E was getting dressed. Today however, so was so excited to wear her own clothes on a Tuesday! She got all Anna and Elsa decked out. I guess even in kinder you dress to impress.

Of course it was the exact same outfit she wore to go hiking on Sunday with Nick.

Today she was also very excited to take cards and end of school year gifts for her teachers. I should have taken pictures of the cards. She told her kindergarten teacher that her favorite thing was the "math bookes (sic)." She told her after school teacher her favorite thing from this year was the art projects.

Fourth to last day of kindergarten

This is Ellies last week of kindergarten. The last day of school is Thursday. Today it dawned on her she will have a new teacher and get to play on the big kids playground next year. I then explained that she will have different classmates to, I'm not she she comprehended that or maybe she didn't want to.

Calvin dropped some chicken during dinner and Mallie came over and ate it. It only encouraged him to try sharing his bell pepper and puffs with her.

A few weeks ago Ellie and I built a raised garden bed and we have been planting flowers, veggies, and fruits ever since. This past weekend Ellie made identifier thingies by writing what we planted on some Popsicle sticks. I can't wait to see how it goes.
