Ellie's last day is tomorrow (Thursday). Despite all the fun of the last week of school (yesterday they had a walking trip to Victory Park) this transition is always tough for Ellie. She doesn't know what third grade will be like, who her teacher will be, and which friends will be in her class...the future seems uncertain and unknown. And put on top of that the fact that she has a summer full of different camps with different people. It's stressful.
We had to make up dance lessons for E as she missed a couple due to her piano recital. Her teacher has a regularly scheduled jazz and ballet classes on Monday afternoon, which are very similar to her regular class. So we figured we'd do the makeup yesterday.
Well the ballet class had three kids, total. Ellie was the only kid in the jazz class. She got a private dance lesson.
The Cubs were in town to play a few games against the Dodgers. So we went to two of them.
Saturday was a typical game for us. Seats in the upper deck, cotton candy and hot dogs.
For the game in Sunday, Nick knows a guy who knows a guy who got is "rich guy seats". We had access to club seats with access to free food and drinks, like ice cream and brussel sprouts in addition to normal ballpark food like hot dogs. And we had front row seats. Which meant that Calvin and Ellie both interacted with players. Nick got two balls from the starting pitcher and Ellie got a signature from a relieving pitcher. The kids ate all the peanuts and cracker jacks they could eat. And then they ran the bases!
During my whirlwind trip to Detroit, Grandma Pam was in charge of the house and morning routine. She had the kiddos hard at work...cooking, practicing piano before school, and even giving Calvin homework. No rest or fun times with Grandma...
I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Detroit. Took a red eye on Sunday night and got home on Tuesday. Exhausting.
Today Calvins school had their Open House. Cal showed Nick and Ellie the work he does at school including metal inset and the chalkboard where he is practicing his writing his numbers.
Today we had a conference with Ms Wildhaber. It was a regularly scheduled conference.
Cal's report card had some "N"s for Needs Improvement. Of course these were categories dealing with Calvin controlling his body in the classroom (climbing OVER tables is not okay, and one is supposed to sit still during circle time) as well as respecting others feelings and taking directions from adults...so he's. 3-year-old boy. But he also is strong willed and opinionated.
They also made a book at school celebrating all the diversity of the kids. They were asked to describe their skin and hair colors as well as eye color and talk a little about themselves. Here is Calvins page.
Calvin was SO excited to hand me a present that he made at school. He has been working so hard to keep it a secret even when I try to get it out of him.
