Strawberries

This morning E asked for strawberries with breakfast. We had some so sure, she got some strawberries with her eggs and toast.

Cal looked at the berries and then at me and grunted rather loudly. I got the impression he wanted some too.

So I gave him some.

I cut up a berry into rather small bites. He ate it all. I cut up another one. Gone (and not on the floor). A third? Yep. Devoured.

100 Days of School

Today was Ellies 100th Day of School.

Tomorrow they are having a little party and her poster of 100 things is due. She finished her poster last night and it's awesome.

She is also a good ball.

But when I picked her up from her after school program today for piano lessons she was hard at work.

Neighbors

Last week our neighbor and I discussed how it was kinda silly for both of us to drive to Webster to drop the kids off. And she offered to take E to school anytime as she goes there anyway.

So we got E a booster seat and today I took our neighbor up on her offer. I sent E to her house with her backpack and booster (I walked her over) and she got a ride to school with our neighbor.

I got more time with Cal's teachers this morning and I still got to work 17 minutes earlier than normal. Amazing. 17 minutes may my sound like a lot, but that's I can get through a lot of email in 17 minutes and as I was at the office till 11pm last night, I'll take any extra time I can get.

Also, at dinner yesterday Cal are about 90% of a slice of an apple. He loved it. And since I think he is teething (this kid will have 8x the number of teeth E had when she turned 1) I'm sure it felt good on his gums.

And apparently Susie survived Boston's #blizzard2015.

Homework this week

This week will include the 100th day of school for Ellie. Her homework this week is to glue 100 small objects to a poster. Sounds easy enough...

Last night we spent some quality time brainstorming objects to use. I think Ellie didn't understand that the objects had to be lightweight and that once glued she would really get them back to be useable. She also didn't quite get the time issues with creating 100 objects.

She wanted to make 100 valentines. Cute. Seasonally appropriate. Not gonna happen if each one takes her, say 5 minutes or more to do. So we compromised and decided to cut out 100 hearts and glue them on the poster board.

It was an all hands on deck family event last night and we were able to cut out 88. Yes Nick and I helped. But she will, by the end of this, end up cutting out about 1/3 of them herself. And she will glue them all. So, she gets the point that 100 is a big number.

And by the end she will be a pro at cutting hearts out. I envision a heart garland in our future...

No snow day

So while our friends and family on the east coast were enjoying a light snow over the weekend and bracing for a blizzard...we ran abound in shorts and dresses, played softball, grilled out, played in the backyard and took the wagon to the playground.

Cal got a few fantastic treats. He got to swing in his new swing he got for Christmas and he rode in the wagon with his sister. Nick took them, in the wagon, all the way to the playground and Cal loves it!

YouTube Video

This morning Ellie got herself ready on her own without pestering. We were all set and ready to go 7 minutes early. Which, this will make Nick happy, I had time to clean up from breakfast!

Whoop whoop...

So we got a call from school and a letter sent home telling us that one of Ellies classmates had been diagnosed with whooping cough. Which has a vaccine (silly people), and E is fully up to date. Ellie said the "sick kid" was someone that she doesn't sit near and doesn't play with, so fingers crossed she wasn't exposed and didn't bring it home to Cal (vaccinated to date but not fully against whooping cough). So we shall be watching both kids closely.

In other news Cal found a new play area/hiding spot this morning.

MLK day

I didn't take and pics this morning.

The kids spent the day with Grandma Pam (all day!) while I went to a project site in Santa Maria on Monday. Neither one had school. Grandma Pam survived and both kids were fed and tired when I picked them up and promptly fell sound asleep on the drive home. So a total success. Grandma Pam even got out of the house to visit with friends and go to Yogurtland. And Great Grandma Van and Auntie Claire got to hang out with them for a while.

Fantastic breakfast

It was a great morning. Both my children had the same thing for breakfast.

Kinda.

Ellie had a banana muffin and a scrambled egg. Well half of the muffin, she will only eat the tops.

Calvin had about 1/2 of the bottom half of Ellies muffin. And some puffs.

I don't think either one wanted me to take their picture while they ate.

The zoo

Ellie has her first school field trip today, to the zoo (a place that she is familiar with). They are taking a bus and eating lunch there. We made sure she wore her Daniel Webster shirt and yes I wrote my phone number on her arm.

We had a long discussion about what to do if she got separated from the group and who to go to for help if she needed it.

She has a doctor appointment this afternoon so I'll be picking her up a little early and I can't wait to hear about their adventure.

Cal was happy.

Artist

Ellie got a paint set from our neighbor for Christmas and it has become an obsession. She loves it. It's "wonder 3D glitter paint". Not sure what that technically means, but, you have to line and then fill in just like decorating cookies and then once it dries you can peel it from plastic and apply your project to a window or something else like a gel cling. I know, that's confusing. Here's a picture.

She loves it! And has made a couple projects. It's kinda hard to peel and it it touches itself it can't be uncoupled, so due to Mommy's fail we have tossed a couple projects. But the ladybug was a success.

And a pic of her haircut.

Today upon arrival Cal got a little fussy when I left. How do you solve a fussy Cal? Feed him! So he got breakfast.

Kangaroos

Today Cal had his first day in the Kangaroos, the next class up from Piglets. The Kangaroos is for more active and mobile babies. Cal Is the youngest in the room but I think some younger kids will join in the next month.

When I dropped him off he seemed content. He is somewhat familiar with the room, having visited before. But it is much bigger and has more toys than the Piglet room. But he found a couple of balls and he was happy.

When Nick picked him up the report was positive. He ate well, took a great nap and spent the majority of the day exploring and pulling up on everything.

In other news it rained and Ellie got a haircut. And we started piano lessons last week, that's another post.

Lemonade

We got a call yesterday the Cal had a fever and had to be picked up from daycare. So we did. And since you have to be fever free for 24 hours before going back...guess who has a home day today! (Note, he is fine. Slept well, no fever overnight. His immune system kicked in and beat whatever was bugging, ha!, him)

Today was his last day as a Piglet.

So we made lemonade. Cal and I got to walk Ellie to school today and watch her play before the bell rang. It was nice.

And I'm going to get on a soapbox here. So many of Es classmates were late today. And I'm sure this is normal. Seriously? School starts at the same time everyday.

Clothing

This picture makes me so happy. She's tying her own shoes. Which are super cool pink converse.

There are some outfits my kids end up in that I think, "Susie would definitely have a comment about this one". Cals outfit today was one of those. Neon orange onesie with blue whales. Blue and white stripped shorts.

Are you Squidding me?

So Cal has this onesie that I find hilarious. It has a picture of a squid on it and it says, "you've got to be Squidding me". Nick and Ellie don't think it's as funny. Cal doesn't care.

I wanted to get a picture of it, but he got a bib on faster than I could be ready for a picture. Boo. But I think the eyes say it all.

A new normal

Back to school! So happy.

I woke Ellie up at 6:45 and she had a nice breakfast. We got to school without debates about food, hair, shoes, or clothes (although I did say she needed a warmer hoodie). She was excited, but a little nervous about heading back after being away for so long.

And we have a new normal with Cal. He has not woken up overnight to feed in the past few nights. He will wake up and fuss for about 1-2 minutes but then falls asleep, which tells me he isn't hungry, just training himself to get back to sleep. He does usually wake up around 5am. Of course this is too early, I don't go to him, and he fusses for about 5-10 min and then falls asleep again, today he slept till 6:50 (thank you Ellie) so our morning was a little tipsy turvy. But at least he is sleeping much better than he has in months.
