A daily dose of Ellie, Calvin, or both!

Mornings just got worse

My morning, since shacking up in the guest house with the kids, involve getting up at 6 when Cal does and quickly getting him into the bathroom and shutting the door so he doesn't wake up Ellie. He has his milk. He plays with toys. I do my thing. And then we emerge and wake up Ellie.

Well Calvin has a new activity. Climbing the toilet. I'm doomed. Mornings are not my thing. But being half asleep and keeping Calvin off the top of the toilet...

Selfie Friday!

Taking a selfie with a toddler is pretty tough, especially when he wants to be with his friends at school rather than you.

Didn't get pics of the kids this morning. So enjoy sleeping kiddos.

Sunscreen

I started the school year insisting that Ellie apply sunscreen every morning before school. By herself.

Well Calvin wants attention and to be just as cool as his older sister. Fortunately, Ellie is willing and able to help the little dude.

She rocked pigtails today!

And we have fixtures and running water in the kids bath! Still some painting and final touch ups, but so close...

Demolition!

Today I had to meet the contractor in the morning to go over some stuff before demo in the master bath started. So I walked E to school. She solved the whole the line leader doesn't pay attention by getting herself to the front of the line. She really seems happy in school and in class.

And demo started in the master. Nasty 1960s whirlpool bathtub is GONE! So happy. We also uncovered some nasty 1960s wallpaper. Fun stuff.

Finally!

Finally Calvin had his urology appointment. This appointment was originally scheduled for April and it got cancelled, rescheduled, and moved so many times (both their schedule and ours...he was getting admitted to the hospital during the first rescheduled appointment). But finally. And due to all the delays, it seems that everything worked itself out. Phew!

Didn't have a photo from today, so enjoy this one from this past weekend.

And also, demo on the master bathroom started. I can't wait to be rid of the nasty whirlpool tub originally installed in the 60s. Gross.

Mornings...

So yesterday and today were the first time in weeks that Calvin has slept past 6:00 am and my alarm has actually gone off. Both yesterday and today he was a beast in the mornings...cranky crying throwing food...

This morning I found a solution. Stick him in a big box. He may be crying but at least he isn't smearing snot in me, tripping me, dumping crackers/pork rinds on the floor, hitting his sister, or throwing food. And eventually he stops crying because he has to focus to figure out how to get out of the box.

Routine

Getting back into the morning routine has been relatively easy despite things (due to the renovation) being very atypical.

Except today. It was like the kids got together and plotted against me. Calvin cried for like 45 minutes straight and nothing would solve his issue, except me holding him while he ate a banana and his eggs. Well, I can't do that all morning so yeah, he cried. Ellie just woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

But walking into school the two were happy. Like they realized they were in public. My arms are killing me from carrying Calvin each morning walking E into school (school has lots of stairs and isn't stroller friendly, so I carry him) so he walked into school with E today.

This picture (below) makes me laugh. Once the bell rings the kids firm two lines. Then the teacher has them follow her (staying in line) up to the classroom. Well, today E was VERY frustrated that her line leader was not paying attention. So much so she started to cry because she was afraid she would be late (a big no no with Mrs Kim). But all was resolved. Anyway, you can see E tearing up, the line leader so not aware of what's happening and Es teacher (left hand upper corner, brunette).

Also...this. Always...this, or something similar. Always. And he looks so proud that he found a way to get a chip.

Second day of school

So our computer is at the shop thus no post yesterday with great first day of school photos (unless you are on FB).

The bathroom is coming along. Lots of finish working happening and demo in the master starts next week!

School is going well, so far. She likes her teacher and her best friend is in her class. So it's win-win!

Last day of summer!

School for E starts tomorrow. So we had a super busy day of fun. After dropping Calvin off she came with me to help set up for the class list posting social for the afternoon (setting up tables in 80 degree weather at 7:45am is preferable to doing it in 100 degree weather). She met a couple new friends (kids of fellow PTA board parents). There was a funny interaction where one mom asked her 2nd grader and Ellen if they knew each other. Ellie shook her head no but the little boy said, "yeah she was in kindergarten last year I recognize her". So Ellie then looked at me with a little embarrassment and shock. She then hid behind me and didn't talk to anyone else.

Then she helped me with some errands including going to the post office and bank.

Then we headed to a her friends house for some lunch and swimming. The girls really like hanging out and are bummed they go to different schools. It was funny to watch them play and chat about 1st grade together.

We then went from the pool to the class list posting social where Ellie again helped me do some final setup and helped me co-staff the school logo gear booth. And then she saw some friends and they ran off to check the class lists. Ellie was a little bummed not to have all her friends in her class but there is a good group of kids in her class and all her really close friends do Learns after school with her.

There was shaved ice, friends, running, and excitement. The social was a major success (and we sold as much logo gear today as we did all of last year!).

Susie left

Susie hopped on a plane back to Boston today. Calvin was bummed out but Ellie was very sad. Fortunately she had a busy day at camp with swim lessons today to look forward to.

After dropping Ellie off at camp Susie, Calvin and I went out for breakfast to a trendy coffee shop that serves toast (the new it good thing). Calvin decided that he needed to eat the bananas off of my toast, and then Susie's toast (tip, eat fast around Calvin or he will eat it for you).

More tile and the vanity happened in the bathroom today! It looks awesome!

Technical difficulties

New phone. Technical difficulties. Grr.

Enjoy a picture of a very tired and hungry little girl who just got back from Knotts with her camp.

Summer Day...

I lost count of summer days. But we have only 4 week days until school starts for E.

Susie has been down in Pasadena. On Sunday we went to Johns Incredible Pizza. I think Susie had fun and was overwhelmed. Calvin and Ellie both had a blast.

Bathroom update: floors are in! Vanity goes in tomorrow...it is starting to come together!
