Terrible twos

My sweet, cuddly, generous baby has turned into a toddler officially.

I gave him the wrong napkin...tantrum.

We didn't have any donuts...tantrum.

Ellie threw away his trash...tantrum.

The fish didn't swim by him...tantrum.

And this morning when I dropped him off...instead of asking me to sit with him while he ate breakfast, he said "go mama!"

Not excited

At pick-up Calvin is usually enjoying a snack and either stories or songs. Once I walk in and he sees me he will wave or smile. But unlike other kids, he is too engrossed in either the snack or the entertainment to get up and come to me.

I usually have to wait for a break and then go get him...

New shoes

It was time for everyone to get new shoes. So Ellie and I looked online and negotiated between slip-one and tie shoes. I was successful in convincing her that she needed tie shoes for the summer.

And she found the cutest pair of shoes online. They are Vans (of course...this family pretty much only wears Vans and Converse) and the print is amazing.

Koalas!

She found a pair of shoes with koalas on them! It was a tough decision between the donuts, cupcakes, flamingos or koalas, but I believe she chose wisely.

Glove

Cal is kinda obsessed with his baseball mitt.

He won't leave the house without it and then it's a battle once we get to school for him to leave it in the car.

Can a baseball glove be a security object/lovey?

Weekend fun

Well, the weekend was jam-packed with fun stuff.

We released our butterflies (all 5 caterpillars made it to butterflies).

We saw life-size, animatronic dinosaurs at the zoo.

We picked about a bushel of snap peas.

We spent a fun morning at the Huntington and saw about 100 lizards, no joke.

We played baseball with friends where Calvin and Ellie both hit some slow pitched softballs.

Animaniacs

Tonight I introduced E to Animaniacs. It was great when she laughed and got some jokes. And then I realized how much better it is than it was in my memory because I have more life experience.

It was glorious.

Also, my daughter reads what is left on the table, including Time.

No hitter

So the Cubs pitcher Jake Arrietta threw a no-hitter tonight. We were out to dinner and Calvin was just as excited as his dad.

Ellie showed me her library this afternoon.

Sock hop!

Tonight Ellie and I went to the Sock Hop at her school. There was dancing, root beer (and orange) floats, pizza, hula hoops, and the limbo. Not to mention the kids got dressed up. Ellie pulled out her Halloween costume from last year. It was a blast!

Backpacks

Well Calvin has really taken to this big boy thing (much to my chagrin...I'm not mentally ready for this). He wants to be just like his big sister including having a backpack like she does for school.

We got out her old small backpack and he is over the moon excited about it.

What does he think is necessary to put in his backpack for his ride to school? His water cup. A Transformer toy. A couple of baseballs, bouncy balls, and even a basketball. Kid has his priorities.

He pees in the potty tonight just before bed. So exciting!

Big boy

Well I think now that Calvin doesn't have his "blue" (aka pacifier) he feels bengals to act like a big boy. We told him that pacifiers are for babies and now that he was a Frog (new class at school) he is a big boy, not a baby.

Today he sat on the potty this morning while E was taking care of her business. And the little dude peed! Then he said, "I did it! Mama, Ellie, and Daddy did it. I did!"

Tonight he asked to sit on the potty (nothing exciting) but he did say "no blue." While he was on the potty. So I really think he has made a connection with being older and more like the rest of his family. Big concepts for a little boy.

Enjoy this flashback photo of my little boy who apparently is growing up too fast and will start college on Monday.

Milestone

We had a great weekend.

Saturday waving at dinner Calvin ordered for himself telling the waiter, "I tacos peese!"

Sunday we went to a member breakfast at KidSpace and Ellie worked very hard on a worksheet. She also saw her favorite counselor from her spring break camp there who took a few minutes and talked to her about her worksheet.

Last night the kids took a bath. Calvin said to me "I poop". I was very worried about him actually pooping in the tub. But no. I asked if he wanted to sit on the potty and he said, "yes, I poop!". So he sat on the potty and he actually pooped in it!!

April Fools Day!

Nick had the day off (no, really he did. I thought it was a joke too) and took E to school. As his hair wasn't done yet he put on a hat. Of course Calvin had to have a hat too. And Ellie had to get in the picture with a hat as well.
