Goalie

Ellie has moved up an age group in soccer. Which means that she is playing with older kids, on a bigger field, with goalies, and more rules. And they keep score.

Last Saturday was her first game. During practice she apparently showed some skill at goalie so her coach asked her to play the position for a quarter of the game. She did well stopping some goal kicks. She did allow one goal.

But she also assisted in her team scoring two goals. Basically she got the ball near the goal and passed to a kid who kicked it in.

Her team is the Pink Pandas. She did not suggest the name. Her subversion for their team, which has BRIGHT pink jerseys was something related to bubblegum. Like the Bubblegum Blasters or something like that.

Ball field

Calvin drew a ball field for me this morning.

Nick met two of my favorite, respected actors in Hollywood. Three handsome men in one photo...such a delight to this geek.

We marched. In Pasadena and Los Angeles. The trains were crowded, the streets were more crowded, and it was amazing.

The Cal-est pizza ever

Tonight was Restaurant Night to support Ellie's school at one of those make your own pizza places. Ellie got a typical pepperoni. However, her brother got a very Calvin pizza...meatballs and brussel sprouts. He loved it!

Also, the little man has been working on fine tuning his coloring skills. All he wants to do now at home is color. And he's getting pretty good at it.

"I did it"

Today Calvin learned how to make the number 2. He was very focused as he worked with his teacher to trace the number then do it on his own. A major accomplishment for such a little kid.

And he was so proud. His teacher sent me an email because his pride was contagious.

Yesterday I took the kids to the Huntington so they could "run around".

Chopsticks

Tonight we went out for Japanese food.

The kids got chopsticks.

After Calvin ate all the edamame with his chopsticks he went after the brussel sprouts. Ellie had to fight him to get hers. Pretty sure they ate more of the appetizer meant for me and Nick.

Initiative

Calvin wanted to make his lunch today. This is common and usually involves me handing him the components of his lunch and he puts it in his lunchbox and then zips it up.

Today, he took initiative.

Also, I saw on FB friends posting a series of questions and answers provided by their kids. I'm not one to post it to FB...but I did have a chat with Calvin. Here are the questions and answers:

WITHOUT prompting, ask your child these questions and write EXACTLY what they say...

It's raining...and pouring

It's wet. It's raining. It's drizzling. There is heavy mist. There are heavy "gullywashers".

It's new. And it's amazing.

I haven't seen a true SoCal winter since I was probably 8.

We didn't even have blue skies for the Rose Parade.

Changes at back to school

We switched Ellie's after school program for this half of the year. It will be interesting to see how it goes considering it has much more free time and playtime than her other program.

And Ellie can make scrambled eggs.

Calvin, my little man, has started saying "of course" or "yes, of course" as responses to questions. Such as, "Calvin would you like milk with your breakfast?" "Of course!". We don't just get a "yes" anymore. Such a little man.

"Calvin, should we buy some broccoli?"

"Of course!!"
