Time for Halloween (2017)

The kids wore their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costumes and we headed out to go trick or treating in the neighborhood. We met up with friends and ran into more while trick or treating.

There were some awesome decorations at houses on our route. One hour even had a corn maze to get to the front door.

Upon getting back to our friends house, Ellie and her friend spent time organizing candy and negotiating trades. Calvin watched the Dodger game with us and really wasn’t too into candy after he got his fun size Snickers.

Pumpkin carving

We carved pumpkins this year. Ellie carved her own pumpkin. Calvin wasn’t into getting his hands dirty or carving...he also wasn’t feeling well. He asked Nick to do a scary pumpkin.

Chip and Dale

At Disneyland Calvin got to hang out with two of his favorite characters Chip and Dale. Since he was a baby they have always been his favorite. Sure, Goody is funny and Donald is a character and Mickey is...Mickey. There are always Woody and Buzz who are hits and Pluto makes him giggle. And then there is Mater or Lightening McQueen who he loves. But Chip and Dale have always made him the happiest. He’s never seen one of their cartoons that we know. But he adores these two chipmunks.

Scary faces

Hey kids, show me your scariest face.

Delayed - penny wars

Ellie’s school is having a Penny War between the grades. Pennies and bills count in the positive while anything silver counts in the negative (so you can put quarters in another gradeto lower their point total). One cent equals one point.

This two week competition/fundraiser Has gotten a bit competitive as the winning grade gets an extra, extended recess. The teachers are using it as lessons in the class.

Third grade had been strongly in the lead all last week until Friday when Kindergarten took the lead. So the third graders were bummed and plotting. One convinced her parents to give her a $20 bill to bring to school and Erik all of Nicks loose change.

She dropped lots of silver coins into the kindergarten jar.

Picture Day

Today was picture day for Calvin. Trust me when I say he looked cute in his bright blue polo shirt but I didn’t get any photos because we all got up early and left for school early because I had to catch a plane to go to Vegas for the day.

So here is Calvin driving.

At one point he told me to put my phone away because it was causing him to make th car bumpy (“that’s why you don’t drive and use your phone Mommy...it’s dangerous!”)

Costumes

The kids want to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Halloween. We had to get costumes together before our trip to Disneyland which meant I had two weeks from when we returned from Austria.

The costumes consume of a premise top (leotard for E and a shirt for C), home made bottom (skirt for E and fleece pants for C), home made belts and masks, and home made turtle shells. The shells are just felt with a sharpie for decoration. They also got new home made truck or greet bags as well.

Lost but not found

Ellie lost another tooth!

This particular tooth was loose in Austria and we actually researched what the tooth fairy customs were in Austria (conclusion: same as here). But the permanent tooth started coming in (broke through the gum) and the baby tooth kinda got wedged in, but forced to an awkward angle...almost 45 degrees out so when her mouth was closed you saw a bump in her lip where the baby tooth was pushing it out. So today, after she told me it hurt and was awkward, I called the dentist and made an appointment to have it yanked...next week.

When I went to pick her up from after care I had two counselors and her friends mom kinda intersect me before I got to E so I knew something was up. Apparently not 10 minutes before I showed up she had a nasty tumble with a friend while they were playing soccer. (Based on the scrapes on her knee it was a doozy). During the tumble she ended up hitting her face on the ball or her friend (not totally clear) and the tooth popped out (along with a cheek scrape and bruise). So when I saw her she looked bloodied (from the tooth and knees), cut, and bruised.

So she and her friend, the friends mom, other friends, and the counselors searches for her tooth but couldn’t find it. Fortunately her friend lost a tooth that fell out once and assured her that if she wrote a nice note explaining what happened the tooth fairy will still come.

Yep, the tooth fairy did leave her a little something under her pillow.

Goalie

From Saturday E again played the position of goalie for half the game. She is really good at it, and if not goalie she is definitely a defender. But it’s not her favorite position...and sadly this week the other team scored on her, but the girl kicked the ball like 6 feet in the air so she had not hope of getting it.

Minion

We received a large bag of hand me down clothing from a friend which I finally got around to sorting. And one of Calvin’s favorite shirt is one with minions on it.

If he has a good day, Ms. Avila usually sneaks him a banana as a snack for the drive home.

If you didn’t know, the minions in the movie series LOVE bananas...that may be all they eat.

So he found it especially funny that while in his minion shirt he got a banana.

Pride

The kids asked to go to the “spider web” playground. The playground has a large rope structure that is web like. Ellie has been climbing to the top for years. Calvin, however, has been too small to even get to the middle area by himself.

Saturday was the day. He found two different paths to get to the middle and jump with the big kids. He climbed the ropes from the ground but also found a way to pull himself up.

He was so excited and proud of himself. He told anyone who asked that he had gotten to the middle by himself. He even tries coaching other little kids to get to the middle.
