Camp Grandma and Grandpa Day 1
Yesterday we met the parents in Camarillo, did a little shopping, and passed off the kids as they are headed to Camp Grandma and Grandpa in Santa Barbara for two weeks. Hopefully the week gets off to a good start as Ellie was exhausted from her first sleepover at a friends house (apparently they only got 4 hours sleep). But being exhausted didn’t stop her grandparents from making the kids work for dinner.

Today was the first day at camp at the SB Museum of Natural History. Calvin was excited for camp as was Ellie, although she’s been going to this camp for 5 years already.

Special breakfast
Today was the last day before the kids head to SB for two weeks. Which means it was Es last day of summer camp in Pasadena before school and Calvin’s last day of summer school. It was also costume day for Calvin.

I also got a couple more photos from Es camp. In the first photo she is working on a prosthetic hand.

So, it seemed perfect to head out a few minutes early for special breakfast.

Swagger
This morning Calvin picked out his “picture shirt” for school. This is a long-sleeved button down shirt...not his usual wardrobe when it is 95 degrees out.

Ellie’s camp sent home a picture of her working on her project today.
I asked him why he wanted to wear it. His response: to surprise his teachers.
As soon as we got to school his teacher said, “look at Calvin dressed as a gentleman” and then his other teacher told him he was handsome. Apparently he got first choice for a partner for lunch. He got the response he wanted.
Hopefully this kid doesn’t insist on dressing up everyday.

Susie’s Bachlorette
It was so much of a party it spilled into three states. We started in Chicago, headed to wine tasting in Michigan, and stayed at a lake house in Indiana. We spent the weekend relaxing, exploring new areas, laughing, boozing, eating, playing board games, and talking about susie. It rained most of the weekend so there wasn’t much time at the late, but it was clear enough for a quick walk along the lake edge.

Cubs vs Padres
A couple weeks ago we headed down to San Diego for a couple Cubs games. Nick got a hotel room across the street from the ballpark and the convention center (it was interesting watching the preparations for ComiCon while we were at the hotel). We saw the Saturday night game with Nicks cousin Jordan who lives in SD (he’s an EMT and firefighter). The Cubs won the game and it was food to catch up with Jordan. We then went to the day game on Sunday, which again the Cubs won.

It was a jam packed weekend and a lot of baseball. But there was also some pool time and fun at restaurants. Calvin beat me in tic-tac-toe...but I made a mistake (my first move was not in a corner). I will never go-easy on him with games again.

Calvin’s new workbook
While I was at Susie’s bachelorette party and Nick was going to the Cards/Cubs games in Chicago, the children spent the weekend with Grandma Pam and Grandpa Mike.

I’m pretty sure the weekend consisted of eating ice cream and cleaning my kitchen.
But Calvin also got a workbook which he has been very engaged with since he got it. It even kept him entertained during Ellie’s soccer practice tonight, except for the 1/2 mile he ran in under 6 minutes.

Field Trip
Today Calvin went on what is his first field trip without a parent or grandparent chaperoning him. His school went o the Natural History Museum in dtwn LA. He rode a school bus and spent all day at the museum.

Of course we talked about listening to teachers and staying with his group and what to do if he got lost (find someone with a badge, tell them he got separated from his teacher and to call his mom...showing my phone number written on his arm).
Apparently he didn’t get separated and made it back to school. And he had a great time.
