Gossip

Tonight was the first restaurant night of the year for Webster. Calvin was excited to see classmates and E was happy to see one of her close friends. The two girls got caught up on what’s new at school. The new principal was there and asked to take a picture with the kids present when she was.

Not happy for school

Cal was not happy to go to school.

Village

With kids in two different schools, we are definitely leaning into our village. Fortunately, there are times when we can be the ones covering and picking up kids and getting them to where they need to be. Tonight, I picked up Ellen from Jillian’s house where she went after school with their babysitter and took all three girls to soccer practice. Elin was along for the ride and she hung out with me on the playground.

Not a happy kid

Calvin was not happy to go to school today. He had a little difficulty letting go of my hand and had a grumpy face as he walked into school. He didn’t cry though, so that was good.

Back to school night

Yesterday was Ellie’s back to school night. We met both her teachers (a teaching team for the 5th grade) and heard about what to expect (study guides for tests!). Her teachers seem nice and on top of things (they have cotaught for 20 years).

Ellie had some art hanging up, a soccer jersey that was about her...apparently she is sponsored by Mexican food.

Jenga master

Calvin has been into wanting to play Jenga with me daily. He can’t beat me at the game but he still likes to try. He is learning though and soon he may be able to win...however he is still just an apprentice.

New Monday tradition

Cals school has a new principal this year and she started the second week of school off with a new tradition, an all-student assembly on the upper playground. She acknowledged some students and got everyone excited about the week. I was able to sneak in the back and check it out all without Calvin seeing me.

Soccer tournament in TO

This weekend we spent up in Thiusand Oaks at a soccer tournament. The team did well with 3 wins to be the winner of their bracket and then they lost in the finals. They had three shut-out wins including one that was 14-0. In that game Ellie had a save (ball just kinda rolled into the box and she grabbed it), an assist (pint to their forward who dribbled it in) and a goal (after the coach pulled her out of the net and let her play forward). I also caught her doing yoga because she was bored as the defenders didn’t let the ball get anywhere near her.We also took the girls to the movies and let them swim in the hotel pool.

Lost and Found

In less than 1 week Calvin lost his water bottle. This morning we searched the lost and found bin but no dice. It wasn’t in his classroom...but, his after school program had it and so it did come home.

Quite the lesson in responsibility in kindergarten without a teacher reminding him to put things away or watch out for him. I doubt he will lose his water bottle again.

And he insisted on a photo with his new friend also wearing his Friday logo shirt.

Thursday

Didn’t get a pic of the kids so here is a picture of us all dressed up and at a friends wedding from over the weekend.

New social structure

Today the new shine wore off the new school for Ellie. She had a tough day navigating the new social structure at school. She also said she struggled with some of the math review today and had some anxiety thinking about how she “learned nothing last year”. But she had soccer and got to see Ishbel.
