Dino Camp Day 5

Last day for Ellie at CEC summer camp. And she is bummed. She had a great time and really enjoyed herself. She's actually bummed that she doesn't have any other weeks there this summer. I hope that this is only the great start to a fantastic summer for her

But really, a camp that has a piano and during free time the kids play and they have to set a timer so everyone gets a turn.

Dino Camp Day 4

So what does she do all day?




It seems pretty open ended and the have "clubs" or teacher lead activities that are optional. Kids can choose to participate in one of a few choices of "clubs" a day...or not.

She's been painting and playing on the playground. She's played piano for friends (yes, camp has a piano) and doing pretend play. She says she has read.






This morning, however, her brother initiated playing with the foosball table.

Dino Camp Day 3

Field trip!





Today E went to the La Brea Tar Pits. She came home full of stories about wolly mammoths and giant ground sloths.

Dino Camp day 2

Today was just as great, according to Ellie, as yesterday. She went swimming again, did some finger knitting, made some dinosaur drawings, played board games...

It is pretty obvious now why she didn't like KidsKlub camp. This camp is quiet and calm and has pretend play and couches to lounge on. The activities don't all involve running and singing and being loud and physical.

Dino camp day 1

Today Ellie started dinosaur camp by CalTechs child education center. It's across the street from JPL and they also have activities (including swimming) on CalTechs campus.

It seems like a pretty loose dinosaur theme but they will have a field trip to La Brea Tar Pits and have a special guest from the Natural History Museum.

Ellie seemed pretty happy about it and made some friends. And she's happy to go back tomorrow.

I didn't get any pics from drop off but I do have pics from when we went to the Hollywood Bowl this pat Friday.

Ellie went to the dentist today. No sign of any loose or wiggling baby teeth yet though...but we did see that her adult teeth are there and waiting to come in.

Last Day of 1st Grade

Today was Ellie's last day of first grade. She was sad, but excited at the same time. They had an early release and Nick picked her up and took her to lunch. She also got ice cream for dinner (after her piano lesson).

She was so happy to give her teacher a gift and that she liked the card Ellie had made. Ellie also apparently received two awards, one for homework turning in (didn't miss any) and for knowing all her high frequency words.

This definitely was a great year! Thank you Mrs. Kim!
