A daily dose of Ellie, Calvin, or both!

Day off of school

Today was an inservice day for Ellie. Due to life craziness, Ellie got to spend the day with Grandma Pam and Grandpa Mike in Pasadena. And apparently it was awesome.

There was crepes and spending the day at KidsSpace, followed by a fantastic lunch and a field trip to the mall where Ellie showed off her memory and navigation skills leading the way to her favorite stores.

Photos were e-mailed to me and Nick during the day to show how much fun they were having.

Like his dad

I took the kids to the mall yesterday and Ellie asked to eat dinner there. And so she had dinner and requested hot dogs from Der Weinschnitzel, a chili cheese dog and a corn dog.

And then Cal demanded to eat the corn dog. And so he ate half of it. Half. Corn dog.

This morning he was super pumped for breakfast at school.

Another long day

Spent the day on a rooftop again. Wouldn't be so bad except that it's so hot, like 95 degrees hot, and that's really like 135 degrees on top of a rooftop without any shade.

But the day ended with Nick, Ellie and I going to the theatre to see Newsies!

Dtwn

Sorry no pics of the kids. I've had a long day taking care of one of LAs landmark buildings. Hanging out downtown in the sun and heat doing my engineering thing.

Ellie's physical

Ellie had her annual physical today. She weighed in at 47 pounds (59th percentile) and is 44 inches tall (27th percentile). So pretty normal for our family. She got a clean bill of health but was told she should drink 2 glasses of milk (E kinda hates milk and she wasn't happy about this...like mother like daughter).

Calvin was hanging out outside when I picked him up. He had made some friends with older kids. And then he tried to kick the balls around in the yard.

And then Nick fed him sardines for dinner. He liked them. I guess like father like son.

Back to reality

It is back to reality for me and Ellie. Spring break is over and we have returned from our cruise where we had 3 days of uninterrupted fun (no cell phone or email!!)

It was a blast. (Small taste below of our fun)

Apparently Nick and Calvin enjoyed their boys weekend. Nick, parent extraordinaire got Cal to take a 2 he nap on Saturday! He never naps!

She was a little difficult to wake up this morning but excited to be heading to school.

I took whole milk to school for Cal...we shall see how that goes for him!

Spring Break day 3

The little man got a pair of overalls from Grandpa Mike. They are adorable, except they are too long. They are totally adorable.

But he wasn't as excited about how cute he looked. He was super excited to play in the ball pit with his buddy. It was hilarious watching the two of them climb in and then in and back out.

For some reason this morning he was pretty angry at breakfast. But as soon as he got to school he was happy. He also got French toast and bacon for school breakfast! Lucky duck! Maybe after breakfast at school I'm a bad cook...

Ellie is so excited about the cruise she packed a day early!

Spring Break Day 2

Happy St Patrick's Day! I totally forgot when getting Cal dressed this morning and so he ended up in grey and blue.

Randomly, so did I. So Calvin and I wore the same outfit today. Grey top with dark blue pants! He did not find it amusing.

(Nope, not walking. But just standing up and hanging out.)

Ellie finished a puzzle she got for her birthday before breakfast with a little help from Grandma Pam.

Spring Break Day 1

Ellie is up in SB for Camp Grandma. Calvin is down here with us in Pasadena for a normal week.

I foolishly thought that having one kid would make the mornings easier. Nope, the opposite. Without Ellie the morning was much more difficult, I knew but didn't realize how much she really helps with him...just keeping him entertained and distracted. And really she is pretty easy in the mornings once she is up and has some food in her.

Today was Cals 1 year appointment. He weighed in at just shy of 25 pounds (91st percentile) and just about 30" long (34th percentile). As a reference Ellie, at 12 months, came in at 21.5 lbs and 27.5".

Then Calvin got 5 shots. He was pissed. He is up to date on vaccinations. Except that he didn't get the flu shot booster. I made the decision that since he got the first shot back in November, then got the flu, then survived the winter without getting sick again, and got 5 shots today...he didn't need another shot.

Field Trip!

Ellie has a field trip today. She and the other kindergarteners are headed to see a play. I don't know which theatre company it is but the play is an adaption of The Teacher From the Black Lagoon, a children's story. Ellie has the book and so she knows it and was really excited.

So excited in fact she put on two different colored socks. I pointed this out to her and she looked at me like I was insane and said, "mommy, it's fashion!". Um, okay then. These kids and their fashion!

And Nick brought home some new hardware, a Golden Mic Award that he and the KTLA morning news team won. He told me he was more excited and proud of this award that the Emmys. That side table is getting a little crowded...

Happy Birthday Calvin!

This mornings attempt at a photo shoot with Calvin and his tiger did not go very well. The birthday boy had no desire to sit still for even 2 seconds.

But he was more than happy to sit at the big kids table for breakfast at school. He wasn't happy with his breakfast though. Everyone else had pancakes, bacon, and tangerines. He had cold cereal mixed with blueberries.

I did take cookies for Cals teachers at school to help celebrate. Nothing for his friends, but today is really a celebration for all the adults in his life.

More to come...

Eve of a birthday

We tend to stretch birthday celebrations out around here and your first is no exception.

As everyone likely knows, tomorrow is Calvin's first birthday. And he shared it with my Grandma Pam.

This weekend we headed up to SB for some early celebrations for Grandma Pam and Cal. It was full of food, presents, and family.

Cal's favorite toy, a gift from Bud and Claire, is a xylophone/ball/hammer combination (best mashup since Dinosaur Train). He has mastered knocking down the balls with the hammer and loves when it makes noise.

YouTube Video

Off to make cookies for Cal to take for his teachers at daycare. And more wacky cake for us!

Happy crawler

When I picked Cal up the other day I was witness to the following exchange between his teachers.

Teacher 1: Calvin is such a happy crawler.

Teacher 2: everything about him is happy!

Teacher 1: I know, he always is dancing and smiling. Happy kid!

That he is.

Even when his sister closes the cabinet doors on him.
