M&Ms

Calvin has declared that he doesn't like candy, just M&Ms. He loves peanut M&Ms. So much so, that they are the perfect bribery to get him to poop in the toilet.

He has had a couple poop accidents since the weekend and been a little hesitant to poop in the toilet. But promise M&Ms...and he poops just fine.

Day three and he had no accidents and pooped in the toilet at school. So proud of the little man!

Of course, all this tired him out.

No accidents!

And on Day 2 of underwear at school, he didn't have any accidents! So exciting. He is so happy and excited about his underwear.

Of course right after dinner he had a pee and poop accident in his undies. But I'll take it. He woke up form night dry, was dry all day at school, and almost made it to bedtime.

No diapers at school Day 1

So I Calvin to school today wearing underwear. No diapers!

First we had to walk E into her school, visit her classroom, then the school office, then the playground, and then I took Calvin to school. No accidents. I did make him use the bathroom before I dropped him off in his classroom.

He had one accident today at school. Which is pretty great!

We also got a photo of him (kinda) from the school FB feed. He was eating spaghetti and salad.

One last zoo pic

I don't think we were out of the parking lot before she fell asleep.

This week Ellie was the class helper. She came home today with certificates for good behavior and thank you'd for being a great class helper. Each of her classmates also wrote a word that they though described her. Of the 19 cards she received, 5 had to do with her looks (pretty, beautiful), 7 were reference to being nice or friendly, 2 were about her being smart and the rest were: awesome, curious, funny, artistic, and cool.

It was Hawaiian day at Cals school.

What else at the zoo?

We had a funnel cake ice cream sundae. It had Oreos in it. It was delicious.

Also, there was the Skysafari. It was a sky gondola thingie...bucket hung from a single cable...air transport across the zoo. Everyone wanted to ride it but me. I hate those things. I almost threw up. I think I scared Calvin by holding him too tight. But I forced a smile and focused on looking at the mission.

Zoo recovery day 2

Calvin and hippos. He's obsessed. Don't know why. He will tell you it's because they go swimming.

Well, we were concerned because the actual hippo enclosure at the SD zoo was getting a facelift. So there was not hippos on exhibit. But we found pigmy hippos! And Calvin was over the moon.

And he really wanted a stuffed hippo...so we got it for him.

In other news, Nick made us a shrimp boil tonight for dinner. It was a big hit, especially the corn, with the kids.

Also, a gratuitous pic of Cal from daycare during water play.

Zoo recovery

What a weekend. We went down to SD on Saturday. I went to an event (with fancy dresses and champagne!) so Nick took the kids to La Jolla Village and got burgers, ice cream, and bothered by a seagull. Then he took them swimming at the hotel pool.

Sunday we went to the SD zoo. Apparently I had been before as a kid but didn't really remember anything. But then I had recollections of memories as a kid when we went to the reptile house...a king cobra! I was a weird kid.

Ellie, is not so weird, and is currently obsessed with pandas. So we mapped out the shortest path and almost ran to the pandas so that we got to see them before it got too crowded. We saw both pandas (mom and son who can't be in the same room as one another). We saw the son eat, then poop (which he does 30-50 times a day) and then go to sleep. The mother was sleeping and eating. Ellie also got some fun facts from the zookeeper at the enclosure who was spewing info. Ellie wrote everything in her new panda journal.

Tune in tomorrow for Calvin and the hippos.

First week of Second Grade Day 3

Nick made dinner last night. Well, he always does, but it was a nice dinner that involved several ingredients, not thawing of anything, and no use of a microwave.

He made teriyaki salmon over a bed of brown rice with cucumber, peppers, and scallions.

Thank you Blue Apron (google it if you don't know what it is).

The kids both ate the whole filet of salmon. Calvin picked at the cucumbers and rice, Ellie just nibbled on some rice.
