Egg Hunts

Ellie had the day off of school and spent part of it working for me.

Calvin had an egg hunt at school today.

After school and Nick got home we headed to Farnsworth Park for a flashlight egg hunt. We ran into friends there including Ellie and Calvin’s besties. After the egg hunt there was a magic show. Calvin got selected as a volunteer and Ellie went up to support him.

Breakfast entertainment

Our neighbor is relandscaping his front yard. Today, they placed concrete at the porch and the sidewalk. The ready mix truck showed up just before 7 and they started pumping concrete soon after. The kids ate breakfast watching the concrete placement and finishing.

Grandma and Grandpa in charge Day 3

I’m home now and the grandparents have headed back to SB.

Apparently Calvin’s morning person cheerfulness was a bit much. How can there be only one morning person in the family?

Grandma and Grandpa in charge Day 1

Nick and I are currently on separate trips (he’s in Miami for baseball, I’m in Salt Lake City for work) so Grandma and Grandpa came down to watch the kids. It’s one thing to watch them during a spring or summer break, but this week they have to navigate homework, early mornings and school bells, submitting of projects, making sure there are eggs for the hunt on Friday, feeding them dinner, piano practice, and getting them to bed at reasonable times.

Monday’s are army release days for Ellie. And apparently my parents felt guilty that Ellie had to stay at her after school program while they were out and about in Pasadena. So they sprung her from Parksnand Rec and took her to the Norton Simon museum to look at the Degas.

Ellie’s Spring Break Day 5

She emerged from her room where she has been enjoying video games, Harry Potter, and videos sprinkled with some time spent on her school assignment.

My sporty spice got a workout today.

She also got some time with Great Grandma Van.

Ellie’s Spring Break Day 3

A tale of two breakfasts.

Ellie’s Spring Break Day 2

Ellie has apparently settled in to her vacation. She has been slept in till 10am, stayed up late watching movies, gone to Pepe’s, worked on her school project, and of course, gone to Yogurtland.

Calvin was excited to take some time this morning and show me his booklet. He has been working on writing three letter words in cursive,

And we got Calvin’s baseball picture today digitally. Definitely a fearsome pitcher.

Ellie’s Spring Break Day 1

It’s Spring Break for PUSD. Ellie is up in SB for Camp Grandparentals. Apparently she got settled in and spent the day chilling in her room with Harry Potter 5 and her laptop. Some research and work on her biography project of Sally Ride happened as well.

Calvin misses Ellie and asked about five different ways when she will be home. But, it also meant a more relaxed morning. He got to get in some quality coloring time.

And that stands for trouble.

Soccer Party

Ellie’s soccer season this spring officially came to a close today with a team party at a local pizza joint. The kids played and ate and chatted. The coaches handed out praise for the team and the kids and the parents. The parents chatted and talked about things other than soccer.

Excitement

Our next door neighbor is Re-landscaping his front yard. Last week he cut down trees and this week he had two diggers tearing our concrete patches and all his grass. Calvin could not look away.

Today Calvin was excited to show me the sequence puzzle at school. He was having fun with it.

Soccer season over

Ellie’s spring all-star soccer season ended on Sunday. The team had three games over the weekend in the playoffs and played up till the last game. They ended up in the championship game, but lost. The only goals scored against Ellie as goalie were in the last game, which was also the only game they lost all season.

The team is amazing. These girls came together from all different schools and previous teams and didn’t know each other. They worked hard, learned new skills, bettered the skills they had, and worked together to have an amazing run as a team. It was so special to watch them grow as athletes and as a team. Ellie was so lucky to have a coach who played keeper in college and work with her to strengthen her skills and learn how to be safe while playing. Good fundamentals go a long way. The coaches were amazing and patient with these girls. And best of all, everyone had fun.
