Last day of Third Grade

Today was Ellie’s last day of school. She was pretty sad about it too. She loved this year  and her teacher. I know I say it every year, but she really had a great teacher and year of school. It makes me happy to know she enjoys school. We will miss Ms Benn and her third grade class.

Piano Recital 5/27

Ellie had a piano recital over the weekend. She performed two pieces:
Cradle Song by Carl Maria Von Weber
Arrietta by Mozart

She choose not to perform her original piece, Harry Potter 2.

Memorial Day 2018

We had a very full weekend complete with a piano recital, musical, trip to the Hollywood Bowl, tri-tip, and so much more.

Today Nick and E went to Universal Studios and met up with her crew and their parents for a day of fun.

Calvin and I played tourist in our own city. After seeing the new KTLA studios (and dropping off E), Calvin and I headed to Griffith Park. Unfortunately shortly upon arrival he was running down a hill and took a big spill. He scratched up his knee pretty good. After lots of tears and two butterfly bandaids, he had finally calmed down. We went to the Griffith Park Merry-go-Round. Apparently this fixture of LA was where Walt Disney conceived of Disneyland. It’s definitely an historic landmark. Calvin had a blast.

Then we went down to the little railroad miniature train ride. Which he also loved.

He was definitely worn out and fell asleep in the car. His knee is better and should be fine, if a little stiff, tomorrow.

Beauty and the Beast

Despite a head cold, Ellie and I headed to the Hollywood Bowl to watch the movie with live orchestra. There were some great headliners: Tate Diggs as Gaston, Rebel Wilson as LaFou, Zooey Deschanel as Belle, Kelsey Grammar as Lumineirre, and Jane Krakowski as Mrs Potts. It was well done and a lot of fun.

Ellie finished the last Harry Potter book this afternoon. I made her go to bed last night (way after her bedtime) while the Battle of Hogwarts was raging on in the book and she was angry with me. She was up this morning before 6am reading.

Meher Open House

Tonight was Open House at Meher. It was an opportunity for the kids to show their family the work that they do at school. Calvin was VERY excited and has been counting down to Open House. He was pumped to show us his latest lesson: labeling the world map.

He also showed us writing/reading four letter words, addition work (bank game), and bubble making (literally putting dish soap in water and stirring it up).

Strawberry Festival

Nick scored some tickets to the Strawberry Festival in Oxnard. After Calvin’s game on Saturday we headed up to Oxnard to check it out. I think it took us as long to get parked at the Festival as it did to get to Oxnard. So we didn’t get lots of time at the festival, but enough. We consumed strawberry nacho, chocolate covered strawberries, strawberry tamales, and Nick got some fried strawberry thing that I can’t remember what it was called. I also got a strawberry margarita. It was all awesome.

The kids did some rock climbing and rides. And we walked around the festival, but we didn’t see all the strawberry crafts or all of the strawberry goodness. And by the time we left the strawberry vendor that we went to was out of flats of strawberries...but that’s okay as I’m not sure we could consume a flat.

3rd Grade school concert

This morning was the end of the year school concert at Webster. As always, the music teacher did a great job with the students and they were well prepared. It was also nice to see them all dressed up.

Ellie took a change of clothes and shoes to school and changed immediately after the concert. We saw them at recess as we were leaving the campus and the kids ran over to say hi.

Last Tee Ball Game 2018

Calvin had his last tee-ball game of 2018 on Saturday. He was sad it was over but excited for the Otty and donuts. It was a lot of fun watching him and his teammates play. I cannot thank his coach enough for his patience, knowledge, time, energy, enthusiasm, and excitement he brought to the team and the game. Calvin gained some new skills and had a blast.

We just gotta work on catching before next year...

TS Reputation

Tonight we took Ellie to the a Taylor Swift concert at the Rose Bowl. She did not know what to expect, but it was a very theaterical show. Fireworks, giant snakes, glowing bracelets for everyone in the audience, special guest, costume changes, aerial acrobatics...her show had it all. And we loved it.
