Too many legos to sleep

At 3am Calvin woke me up and said he had to go to the bathroom. Fine...except he went to his bathroom and not mine. At 3:30 I realized he hadn’t come back so I go to find him, expecting him asleep on the toilet. He was in his room with the light on building legos. I told him he had to come back to bed and he didn’t want to, but eventually I convinced him. I’m not aure when he got up again, but around 5:15 I woke up and noticed he wasn’t in bed. I again found him building. What he had been working on at 3:30 was now done and he wa playing with it, so I have no idea how kind he had been up. But he fought me on going back to bed again. He said he liked building at night. He took a nap at schoolx

Braces and flute

It’s been a bit of a bumpy road getting her sound back with the flute since she got her braces. But it’s getting there...

What happened

Last night I was watching Ellie warm up for soccer practice. And there was a moment that I looked at her and realized that she wasn’t the little kid I still think of her as. She was a big kid, almost of an age that was dual digits...

What a weekend...

We are all exhausted.

Nick and Ellie went down to Norco for a soccer tournament. There was stress and last minute goals and Ellie took a ball to the face (she had her mouth guard in). But the team won two games (out of three) and have moved on to the next round of the CalSouth State Cup. They spent the night down there and had plenty of pool time and fun with soccer-besties.

Meanwhile...I spent the weekend nursing Calvin to keep him out of the hospital and ER due to a bad case of croup that led to rapid and struggling breathing. After a sleepless Friday night tending to him, a doctor visit on Saturday morning, prescriptions and instructions, and viligance...he is now better and we didn’t end up in the hospital! There was a lot of getting him to stay still for medicine, cuddles with Emmett, and LEGO Building...lots of LEGOs.

Next door pool

Our next door neighbor is building a pool. It’s been fascinating for the kids to watch the process from the digging, to the rebar cage install, to the shotcrete placement. Yesterday they placed the concrete for the coping. As we were getting ready in the morning the kids saw the ready mix truck and they soon were finding ways to peep over the fence. I think the workmen got a pleasant surprise of the kids head just barely over the fence watching them.

I’ve been doing quite a bit of disaster response work lately related to the Wolsey Fire. It’s been some long days..

Attention

Someone felt he wasn’t getting enough attention at dinner so he put a sock on his hand and dramaticized his spaghetti eating.

Word search

There are a few kids who are always at school between 7:30 and 8. After 8 most of the other kids arrive. These morning usuals include Calvin. They have a special bond with Ms McCray who is the teacher there first thing in the morning. She always has a newspaper and reads it front to back and works some of the puzzles. Calvin has caught in that she doesn’t do the word search. Now, he asks for her to save it for him and if he doesn’t finish in the morning he does it in the afternoon.

Sleeping kids

I’m sure they will be angry at me in a few years for this...but sleeping kids are adorable.

Calvin still won’t sleep in his bed all night. Every evening he comes and climbs into bed with me. He is asleep most night but sometimes he is wide awake and wants to talk. Still working on getting him to sleep in his own bed...

Free weekend

Because of the rains, Es soccer tournament was rescheduled. Which meant we had a free weekend!

On Saturday Nick took both kids to auniversal Studios and didn’t take any photos. I got a bunch of stuff crossed off on my to-do list at home.

Sunday Es bestie Ishbel came over and the girls built with Legos and a giant blanket fort. They also made a sign that said “Girls Only”

Last Day in Seattle

The last day in Seattle we did some ice skating, ate lots of seafood, got some great views of the city, and had plenty of fun gametime with Aunt Sue and Uncle Glenn.

New ninja gym

A new teammate on Ellie’s soccer team attends a new gymnastics and ninja gym in Pasadena. Her mom is a stunt woman who is training for American Ninja Warrior...so we decided to check it out. She went to a ninja class on Friday and had a blast!

Rain + soccer

This weekend Ellie has a soccer tournament. And it rained...fortunately the girls didn’t get rained on while they played, but the fields were a muddy mess and everyone was cold. The girls had fun. Ellie has some dives and saves but didn’t have to run through a mud puddle or get mud up the back of her uniform.

The Millennium Falcon

Santa brought a lot of legos to our house. Including a 1500 piece Millennium Falcon for Calvin. He has gotten pretty good at putting together smaller LEGO sets. However, the focus, drive, and grit of Calvin as he works on the Millennium Falcon is impressive for any kid, but it’s almost unbelievable for a 4-year old. Every morning he has woken up early and worked on the set. He asks for help with the stickers and when he makes a mistake and has trouble taking the pieces apart...this set has a lot of flat pieces that are hard for him to take apart. He’s getting there...
