Halloween Prep day
We spent yesterday prepping for Halloween. We worked on Ellie’s costume which included power tools, hot glue, and my sewing skills...it’s gonna be awesome.

And then there was carving of pumpkins!

What a day!
This morning I got an unexpected gift from a friend who saw some concrete earrings while traveling and had to get them for me. And then, while getting a thank you gift (bottle of wine) for our friend who drove E to school earlier this week I got carded! The guy at Target said he had to card people under 35...and I laughed, and then he told me there was no way I looked over 30...thank you nice man. From there everything went smoothly at work. And then we had fun at movie night!

Thank you Cincinnati!
I got back from my ACI conference in cincinnati. It was three very long days of meetings and networking and technical discussions. And then I had to give a talk where technology failed me. I was stuck behind a lectern with a fixed mic barely able to see the main screen. I could advance the slides on the big screen but the slides on the computer on the lectern wouldn’t advance. Quickly weighing all my options, I decided against stopping and restarting with maybe it working, and the room was too big (around 100 people) to not use a mic, so I was stuck and just hoped I remembered the presentation. I could see some of the slides and photos but couldn’t read my bullet points. But I got told I did amazing and had wonderful eye contact with the audience and was the best speaker of the day...so maybe I don’t need the presenter view!

I also saw John roeblings first bridge and the first reinforced concrete high rise. We also walked to Kentucky to try bourbon. Cincinnati was definitely more fun that I thought it would be...it wasn’t Cluj-Napoca, Romania...but it was pretty good.

Penny Wars
Webster has Penny Wars every fall. Pennies and dollars are positive points ($0.01 = 1 point) when put in a grade level jar, but silver coins are negative points. The grade with the most points wins an extra recess! The money goes to the PTA.

Calvin has figured out the game and has added sabotage to his vocabulary. Every morning this week he has been asking friends in kinder if they have $20 bills so that they can get 2000 points. This morning he had his bag of pennies and some dollar bills to add to the kinder jar. It was crowded while we were in the office with older kids watching and calculating where to add sabotage points.

Exhausted
Apparently playing a soccer game and then going to goalie practice and then turning around and spending a full day at school is exhausting!

She fell asleep while putting on her pajamas.
Meanwhile, Calvin wanted to stay up reading a chapter book.

Team El Salvador
Ellie is playing with her team in another league, a Pasadena city league...that is all boys, except for Ellie’s team. All teams in the league are named after a country. Ellie’s team is El Salvador, which is where her coach is from.

They won last week but lost tonight. And then I was a mean mom and rushed her from the game to her goalie clinic. So she had soccer for over 2.5 hours tonight...she is wiped out!

Calvin’s diorama
Cals homework last week was to make a diorama. I gave him a box, his sister helped with getting him paint, and Nick gave him tape and he did the rest. He had a vision and he executed it.

A dinosaur diorama.

Fall Festival
Today was Webster’s fall festival. The kids had fun playing games with friends. Calvin went as a Cubs player and Ellie went as Megan rapinoe, or at least a Megan Rapinoe super fan. Calvin actually won the costume contest for the kinder kids. He was super pumped. Ellie won a cake at the cake walk.
