Food helpers

Conversation at dinner:

Ellen: Mommy, I ate all my lunch carrots and then we had carrots for snack and I ate all of them. So my eyes will get better.

Calvin: carrots help your eyes?

Me: yes.

Calvin: what do bananas help?

Me: they help your muscles feel better.

Calvin: what do blueberries help?

Me: your liver and kidney.

Calvin: what does bread help?

Me: your poop. (Followed by laughter)

Calvin: what does cheese help?

Me: your bones.

Calvin: what does coffee help?

Me: your sanity.

Photos from when I took the kids to Travel Town to see the trains.

Community helpers

Cal's school is talking about community helpers, people who make our neighborhood safe and happy places. So Ms. Wildhaber asked parents and kids to bring in any items from our profession that fit this description.

Cal immediately thought about "mommys hats!".

So we talked about why mommy had a hardhat and when I wore it. So today he took one to school and told his friends that I wear it when I go to construction sites to fix buildings and make them better.

Awards and Disco Balls

Ellie got an award. We knew she would but we didn't know what it was. There are three tiers of awards. The first, two kids per class get. The second, one kid per class (three per grade) and the top tier, one kid per grade.

They announced the lowest tier...not Ellie. The announced the second tier...no Ellie. I glanced back and saw Ellie with a BIG smile on her face...she knew she was gonna get the big prize. Sure enough, she got Citizen of the Month!

Tonight was Webster's school dance. It was a 70s/disco theme. Ellie wore her silver sequins dress to mimic a disco ball (best we could do for a 70s costume).

Calvin came too!

"Mommy! I have a prize! I show you and Ellie when we get home!"
-Calvin at pickup

Turns out there was some imaginary play happening and the kids drew pictures and called them prizes. He sure was happy.

Something isn't right

Notice something wrong with this picture?

He told me this morning (after sleeping my my bed since 2:15am) that he doesn't like his bed. He likes my bed with the pillows because it's more comfy.

New sofa

The new sofa was delivered today.

Last night Nick and I moved the old sofa to the guest house so the living room was empty when the kids woke up. They were confused, but Calvin took advantage of all the space to play with his trains and bouncy balls.

And the new couch was delivered. It's bigger and a sectional. Pretty much the same color (which three out of four in the family thought should be a different color). It's comfy and cozy and the whole family can sit on it at the same time! Of course Calvin lobbied hard to watch TV on the couch tonight even though it was a school night.

April Fools

Ellie was way into April Fools. She talked about it for about a week and was scheming.

In true Ellie fashion her prank involved Shopkins. She turned out appliances and furniture into Shopkins!

And then Nick and I went day drinking at my Jim's bar. Now open.

Also, this note came home from school today...
