A daily dose of Ellie, Calvin, or both!

Cal's first day at Kids Klub

Today was Cal's first day at his new daycare. From the moment we walked in and were greeted at the door by a friendly face it was a easy transition. Everyone was excited for Calvin to start and knew him more than they knew me (based on paperwork we had filled out). He was asleep when we arrived but woke up in time to be picked up by his new teacher and introduced to a new friend.

The photo above is the large indoor gross play area. You can see the kitchen and chef as well as the large aquarium in the background. The photos below are of Cal in his new infant room.

Something funny that happened over then weekend is Cal has started getting very excited by his PacMan decals. He starts kicking his legs and vocalizing and laughing as well as wildly moving his arms when you put him on his changing mat. It makes me laugh which makes him laugh more...vicious cycle.

On Saturday morning Ellie helped give a bottle to Cal.

She also helped with dishes yesterday.

And yesterday nick and Ellie went to a splash park.

For a multitude of reasons we are switching Cal to a different daycare. Today is his last day at his first daycare. Monday is his first day at his second daycare. This afternoon Nick, Cal and I are going to an orientation at the new daycare where we will meet his primary teacher and get set for Monday. Cal may not be, but Nick and I are very excited for him to be switching.

This morning Ellie spotted an old friend by our front door.

Science!!

Last night Ellie and Nick had quite a night out. Ellie got invited to a play date at a playground that turned into dinner out for the girls. She got to see her buddies who are doing summer school at a different school. She has missed them dearly and was excited to spend time with them. But she came home an exhausted mess last night.

They survived

Last night Nick had to feed both kids, shower Ellie, get both ready for bed, and put both to sleep by himself. A feat not for the weary. When I got home everyone was asleep, Ellie's lunch was made, bottles were washed, and all was calm indicating a successful evening for Nick. According to Ellie she was a model child but Cal was fussy until he fell asleep. But Nick did remember her medicine and combed out her hair okay.

I think Cal is checking out Ellies polka dots...

Water play Wednesday

Today Ellie got her bathing suit on and ready for Water Play Wednesday at school. But she took time to read to Cal.

Cal and I had a little photo shoot this morning. I got a onesie from a contractor and promised them photos. So we played dress up and took some for me to email. Of course with Little Hobbes...until Cal tried to eat him!

Nick is going to have fun today. Cal's daycare has their preschool graduation program and is closing at noon today...so guess who gets to come home early! Couple that with the fact that I have a thingie tonight and Nick will have to put both kids to bed. He can do it. Besides, I deal when he jets off to Chicago and leaves me with both of them...

Personalization

Cal has his name on everything. Bottles, clothes, pacifiers, diaper and wipe packaging, and bibs. I don't remember putting Es name on this much stuff when she was at daycare. We probably did, but it's a memory that has since been removed to make room for something else. I made him another bib on Sunday, this one with a C on it for Calvin. It received a gracious christening of spit-up this morning.

Last night we went for a walk. We as in me and Cal. Ellie went to story time in her pajamas at the library. She met up with a friend and had a great time. She was exhausted and had to be helped into bed when she got home though.

Lately I have been swaddling Cal with both arms out. Last night he woke up at 11pm. Much earlier than normal. Seeing as I was exhausted, I swaddled him arms in and he promptly fell asleep until 3:30am. We will try arms out again tonight...

Ellie was a little sneaky fox this morning. Her friends have been bringing toys, jewelry, and dress up clothes to school to play with during afternoon daycare. We have a strict no toys/stuff/jewelry to school except books or other good sharing items on sharing days. Well, Ellie hasn't been too find of this rule lately and has voiced her opinion about it and how it wasn't fair because her friends brought stuff from home, blah blah blah. Today she tried to sneak some bracelets to school. And she would have succeeded had she not posed for the photo below with her lunch box facing out...

Nice try kid. The bracelets are in my car, not at school. But she did take the book for reading/sharing (after we took out the Elsa stickers that she didn't want to share from the back of the book).

Birthday weekend

I had a great birthday weekend. Low key, mild, relaxing...exactly what I wanted. Nick and Ellie had fun at Universal Studios and I'm now kinda addicted to making bibs (so fast and easy with a great payoff of a cute item and less spit up on his clothes!)

This morning Ellie's teacher sent some photos of summer school water play and the marine biology thingie from Friday. Looks like she is enjoying summer school!

And when she wrote out happy birthday for me yesterday, she drew a line in birthday to separate the words making up the compound word birthday. She obviously loves school and is learning quite a bit there.

This morning to was back to normal with Ellie sleeping in past 7 (but on the weekend...she's up at 6:15! Argh). Cal spitting up on everything, but being totally happy about it. And rushing around to get out of the house to get everyone where they need to be on time.

Ugh...antibiotics

Something I didn't share here because I was hoping it would pass, was that Ellie has had consistent accidents overnight this whole week. We had four in a row. I decided yesterday that I needed to rule out something medical so we went to the doctor. Good thing we did as the initial tests came back that she has a UTI. They are doing a culture to determine if she has a bladder infection as well. So she's on antibiotics now and has new rules regarding the amount of water she has to drink and how often she has to try at least to use the potty.

Good news...she didn't have an accident last night!

The above picture is her definition of a funny pose. Today a travelling aquarium/marine biology group is coming to school AND it is a board game Friday!

Cal was woken up multiple times by Nicks alarms last night but was a happy (super spitter) kid this morning.

Bad night bad morning

It was a rough night. I didn't sleep. Cal was congested and very hungry and apparently missing mommy. Mallie wanted to sleep on me or in my spot. Nick slept with his elbows out and tossed and turned. And Ellie had a potty accident in bed.

Mommy didn't sleep.

So you get a picture of my beloved (and necessary) homemade iced coffee in a mason jar.

Deal. I am.

You know what else I'm dealing with? Being on site for work and pumping in my car.

Water play day!

In true summer school fashion there is a weekly water play day. This year instead of Fridays, water play is on Wednesdays to break up the week.

So Ellie was up with her swim suit on and a dress at 6:40am. Obviously she was excited! And we packed up a towel, water shoes, extra clothes, and everything else she would need. Guess who was the bag lady today!

Cal had a normal night and doesn't seem that congested. He seemed happy to be at daycare and was super smiley with me. But was distracted by another kid who was just learning to sit up.

In the car Ellie asked me to define Taliban and murder...blarsted NPR! Guess we won't be listening to that in the mornings on the way to school. Those are not things I wish to discuss with my 5 year old early in the morning.

Ghost cries

Usually Cal wakes up once a night to eat around 2:30 and quickly falls back asleep and stays asleep until 6:30-7:00. I know I'm usually SUPER lucky.

Lately (as in the past two nights) the nights have not gone well. He was up 4 times last night to feed and had a horrible time falling back asleep. I think it's his congestion that is making things difficult for him (and me).

So after a tough night we had a tough morning. Ellie slept in and Cal cries the whole morning and the whole car ride. It wasn't fun. So I have been hearing ghost cries from the back of the car, in my office, anywhere I go I keep hearing Cal crying. I think it's just the ringing in my ears.

And I was hoping that today's post would be all about Ellie and the library. Monday nights our library does story time for kids in PJs. So Ellie got her jammies on, brushed her teeth and headed to the library with Nick last night. Apparently it was a total blast. There was crafting, stories, and a short video. They both had a great time they are already looking forward to next Monday, as well as other events on the library calendar. When Ellie got home she wasn't ready to go to bed, she wanted to stay up and read for a little bit. How could I say no!

First day of summer school!

Today is the first day of summer school and not was Ellie excited. Despite two of her best friends doing summer school somewhere else for about a month (they will be reunited eventually) Ellie has a lot to look forward to. There are new friends, pajama days, water play days, themed costume days, visit from an aquarium and other travelling animal/museum guests...so much! She was a ball of happy energy. When we got to school she and her other best friend were plastered at the window checking out the new kids arriving.

Calvin...he was something else. Why can't both kids have good nights/mornings at the same time? Cal barely slept after 1:30 this morning. He was congested so I think that played a role, despite my best attempts to sprunge the snot (he HATES it). But he did sleep for a little bit around 5:45am which allowed me time to get dressed. He was clutching his pacifier while he slept, so cute (and look, both arms out!).

Yesterday he started being VERY vocal. Not fussy, but really sharing some vowel sounds with us. At school I got a picture of him "talking".
