"The best day of second grade!"

Today Ellie and her class hiked from school to Eaton Canyon, into the canyon, back out, and back to school. In total it was about 3 miles. When they got to the bridge they had lunch and all played in the water, getting totally soaked.

She had a blast. (Photos provided by a friend who was a chaperone)

Drop off

Watching the kids interactions with their friends in the morning, when they first see them, is always fun.

Roses

The roses at the Huntington are in peek bloom and it is beautiful.

We spent yesterday picking out new furniture for the living room to go with the new couch. It was a long day.

Here is Cal hanging with some VIPs during happy hour.

More from SB

Another day of SB life for Cal. Apparently it was filled with the beach, lunch dates with Uncle Buddy, naps, wishing Susie well on her travels back to Boston, the Habit, a milkshake, and Moana. Oh and puzzles.

We got to FaceTime this morning with Calvin.

And Susie sent some great videos of Calvin today.

Rain Day

Apparently it rained in SB so Calvin, grandma Pam and Susu had to get creative.

So he got sugar cereal and made PlayDoh. Two things that make camp grandma special!

Artiste

Ellie has been showcasing her artistic abilities lately. She won a coloring contest last week and school. And yesterday she took time and drew a beautiful, complex flower.

She gets really focused while drawing.

So does her brother.

He is up in SB spending the week with grandma and Aunt Susu. Today they went shopping and to the botanic garden where they saw lots of wildflowers and lizards. Apparently there was also hiking and crossing a creek on stones. He got worn out.

Eggs

Apparently it's Easter weekend. Both kids had Easter egg hunts but both were very different.

Calvin took 5 eggs stuffed with non-food items to school. Parents hid them on the playground and then the kids were turned loose. Once a kid had found 5 eggs they sat down and got to go through their loot. Calvin had a blast. They also made pancakes in school.

Ellie's class had more of a egg race. 300 eggs were strewn on the schools front lawn and the kids were set loose on them. It was a free for all. (Shoutout of thanks to the mom who bought and stuffed all the eggs and bought baskets for all the kids! #notme). Her teacher had sent home a secret note telling the parents the plan. Ellie had convinced herself that the note was secret because second graders can't keep a secret and it was that they were going to hide eggs for the kindergarteners. Ha!

Photos from the mom who stuffed all the eggs (big smiles from everyone!)

Also, Ellie has become obsessed with Helen Keller and reading her biography. She currently has 5 biographies of her that she is reading.

Crane

A large crane was at Cal's shook today to put a new cross on top of the bell tower of the church. There was a large personnel lift too. The entire Peking lot was blocked off for all the equipment and there was a crew of about 8. A large to do.

The kids were mesmerized. It was awesome to be a preschooler.

Calvin couldn't stop talking about the big orange basket that took the workers up and down. And the big crane could drive away.

Bike ride

On Sunday the kids decided they wanted to ride their bikes to Starbucks. Okay.

We left just before 9am and got home after 11. Most of the time was spent riding bikes. Calvin struggles going there as it is all uphill. So there was some pulling the bike to keep him going. And he would get concerned because Ellie would ride so fast and ahead of us. He also fell and hit his lip.

But we made it with both of them riding the whole way.
