Ellie is generally predictable as she has always been one to emote. She has spent quite a bit of time looking at pictures, holding her blanket, and writing her a nice note. She has shed quite a few tears as well.
Calvin took longer to process the loss. Last night he seemed okay, until he seemingly broke down for no reason. Tonight though, the magnitutide of it hit him full force when he got home from school. Eventually he also said his sad he was that “they cut Mallie up”. Nick apparently explained to the kids that Mallie would help other cats by letting the doctors study her (we donated her body to vet research). Well, Calvin is a smart 4 year old...but still a 4 year old...and thought they cut her up and she felt it and, I’m inferring a littl here, we have her away because she was sick. I had to explain she had died and wasn’t alive and didn’t feel anything.
The kids and I talked about her and shared stories over pizza including how she always wanted to sit on our pizza boxes because they were warm. Or how she always wanted to eat our cereal and drink the milk.
