Woke

Every morning Calvin and I listen to KUSC and most of the time catch the Great Composer Quiz around 7:45 right when I dropping him off. He always guesses Mozart or Beethoven...I’m usually wrong also. 

Today I had no clue and said so. Then Calvin says, “are they always guys?” He was asking if all the composers in the Great Composer Quiz were men. I said yeah and started to talk about musical history over the past 300+ years. I started to talk about Clara Schumann and how unfair the world was to her...then he interrupted me to ask another question.

“Were they all white?” 

Um...

“Mommy, did you know that there used to be signs that said white people can do more things than black people like sit at restaurants and swim? In the 1990s mommy! It wasn’t fair...”

So yeah, he woke. 

In other news, this evening we found out that our library is the community hotspot on Tuesdays. We ran into soccer and school friends there.
