Gardening

Calvin helped me do some gardening this weekend. We spent hours pulling roots from the. It’s of paradise and cleaning up the bed in front of the house. I think I pulled every muscle in my body and am really sore right now. But Calvin was helpful, until he wasn’t but was able to entertain himself. After collecting rocks and putting weeds into the container he found my phone and took a bunch of videos of himself as well as selfies.

House divided

This is what Ellie wore to school today:

This is what Nick did this morning:

Calvin says: Go Dodgers!!

I’m rooting for the Dodgers, only because Boston doesn’t need a 4th World Series win in 14 years.

Ellie says she’s rooting for the Red Sox because Matt and Susie live in Boston and that’s where she was born.

Poor Ellie

Ellie has a ruptured ear drum. She was complaining last night of ear pain but we sent her to bed. This morning she was still complaining so I thought maybe an ear infection...but no fever...so I sent her to school. However, I called and made a doctors appointment. When Nick took her to the doctor she was diagnosed with a ruptured ear drum. Now she has antibiotics and ear drops.

And while she was at the doctor, we took the opportunity to get the wort on her knee frozen. And she got some medicine to facilitate the removal of the wort.

And she got a flu shot.

Tough day.

But here are some cute pics of her in Boston.

Calvin’s picture day

Today was Cals picture day at school. He insisted on wearing his “wedding clothes”. So he went to school in the same outfit, sans fancy shoes, as he wore to Susies wedding albeit with a wrinkled shirt. I know he wanted to look nice and be fancy for the picture but I think at least half of his desire to wear the suit and tie again was for the attention he knew he would get from everyone. He swaggered into the classroom and got smiles and compliments from his teachers. But he also got a compliment from his little female friend who told him he looked handsome. I think if he could he would wear that suit jacket everyday.

Back to reality

Today everything and everyone was back to normal. Kids went to school with sack lunches, I started the day with an 8:30am conference call. There was homework and piano practice and laundry...

Ellie was tasked with learning about the American Revolution while we were in Boston. So, we decided to visit a museum that none of us had been to before, The Boston Tea Party Ship and Museum. There were replica ships, meeting house, and a museum with the last remaining known box that was thrown overboard. The kids got to throw tea in the harbor and learned about the start of the revolution. It was a little over Calvin’s head, but I think Ellie was engaged and learned a lot. It was a good summary of the start of the revolution presented at a jr high level. They also had talking portraits (a la Hogwarts) of King George and Sam Adams who had a lively debate about the merits of American Independence.

Beginning of wedding week

It’s not quite a week out from Susies wedding...but today was our kickoff as it was wacky and full and chaotic.

Ellie didn’t have school today (parent-teacher conferences) so we headed out to special breakfast. Ellie came to work with me for a little bit (and practiced her calligraphy on my whiteboard). Nick and I had her conference (which was easy since her teacher thinks she is the most awesome student ever in the history of teaching...no exaggeration, her teacher has a bit of a dramatic flair). I got out a massive report that I’ve been working on for over a month. And then we had Fall Festival at Webster. The kids played games, went in the spooky maze, ate nachos and tacos, and E even helped run a game at the end of the night. Pfew.
