CicLAvia

We were invited to go to CicLAvia with Ellie’s soccer friend and her family. CicLAvia is when major streets of Los Angeles are closed tocvehicles and opened to bikes, pedestrians, and scooters. Sunday’s route was between Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. It would through dtwn LA, along Wilshire, and into Hollywood. The event was held in conjunction with LA Philaharmonic’s 100th anniversary. The route was full of stages and performers and music.

We drove to Union Station, afraid of crowds closer to the start of the route, and met up with our friends. Then we rode to start. Ellie has her bike. Calvin and I had scooters. Our friends were all on bikes with the youngest on a tag-a-long...which Calvin was very jealous of. Once we made it to the start and got our bearings, Ellie, her friend, and her friends dad took off to go at a faster pace. Calvin, myself, and the other half of our friends family rode at a much slower pace.

It was crowded and it was a little nerve wracking watching much faster and serious riders fly down the hills of downtown. Calvin trades turns on the tag-a-long. Eventually we made it to MacArthur Park where we stopped for lunch and enjoyed concerts. Calvin’s was worn out and tired. I was too. So we took the subway back and met everyone at Union Station. There were a few tears, and I had some anxiety, and it was weird to eat lunch sitting in the ground and watch classical concerts in MacArthur Park but we all had a great time. Ellie and her crew made it to Koreatown; overall she rode about 10 miles in total.
